Olasupo who dragged his wife to court accused of her of being irresponsible and troublesome, Nigerian Tribune reports.
Olasupo stated that Adenike was in the habit of fighting him and their neighbours, which resulted in her being arrested by the police at three different times.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant often assaulted him by hitting him with hard objects, biting him, and sometimes pulling his scrotums even in public.
He added that his wife stole his ATM card and withdrew N10,000 from his account.
Olasupo further said that Adenike told his friends that he had body odour and therefore stinks.
He explained that he moved out of his matrimonial home when it was obvious that his wife would kill him.
The plaintiff thus prayed the court to end their marriage and grant him custody of their children.
Adenike, despite pointing at her husband’s shortcomings, refused that their wedlock be dissolved.
She alleged that her husband was a party freak, drunk, and womaniser.
Adenike stated that Olasupo often abandoned her and their children and hardly came home.
According to her, her husband was always in the company of his lovers, whom he regularly took to hotels and even brought to their matrimonial home on some occasions.
Adenike further said that Olasupo always refused to take her along to social gatherings because, according to him, she was not presentable.
Olasupo, in his testimony, said, “My lord, I have moved out of my matrimonial home since my wife refused that I had peace of mind.”
“Adenike added no value to me throughout the time we lived together. All that she knew to do was to fight and turn the whole house upside down.”
“We were thrown out of our place of abode due to her troublesome nature.”
“We moved into our own house, which was almost completed, and peace deserted the neighbourhood.”
“My wife fought our neighbours’ wives and stopped them from fetching water from our well.”
“She called me a bustard in the presence of our neighbours for daring to mediate in the misunderstanding she had with them.”
“Adenike frustrated all efforts by the elders in our community to ensure peace reigned.”
“The community regarded her as a nuisance and got her arrested by the police thrice, but she refused to change.”
“Adenike made life difficult for me at home.”
“She fought my mother, who came to babysit after we had our first child and sent her packing.”
“My wife and I hardly ever agreed on issues because she is stubborn. We always ended our discussions arguing and fighting.”
“Adenike is destructive. She has destroyed my phones and electrical gadgets during fights.”
“She is in the habit of hitting me with hard objects any time we had a misunderstanding.”
“She assaulted me also in the public.”
“My wife once hit me with a steel purse at a party, while at another occasion, she hit me in the face and bit me, thus leaving me with a swollen face.”
“Adenike ridiculed me by telling my friends I had body odour and that I stink.”
“She gradually graduated to being a thief.”
“She stole my ATM card and withdrew N10,000 from my account, but denied it.”
“She turned a deaf ear to her family members’ counsel and waved aside all the admonition her pastor and his wife gave her on being a virtuous woman.”
“She also ignored my friends’ appeal that she let peace reign in our home.”
“I sometimes decided to sleep in my farm since I received no comfort going home, but she started accusing me of sleeping with other women there.”
“I got fed up with our dog and cat lifestyle and decided to move out of our home.”
“I have never regretted my decision to date.”
“My lord, I am in court today to seek the dissolution of my marriage to Adenike and the award of our children’s custody to me.”
“My wife is obviously not a good example to them.”
Adenike responded, “My lord, my husband is the worst husband anyone can have, but I do not agree to divorce.”
“My lord, he lied that I stole his ATM card and withdrew N10,000 from his account.”
“My husband was reckless and indifferent to my welfare and that of our children throughout the time we lived together.”
“He was always away from home attending parties, drinking himself to stupor and also found in the company of women.”
“He neglected our children’s welfare and passed the bulk of his responsibility in the home to me.”
“I was the one feeding and clothing our children, and that had not changed till date.”
“He refused that I attended occasions with him and would rather take his lovers along. He always said that I was not presentable.”
“My husband has no conscience. He brought some of his lovers to our home.”
“My lord, we were thrown out of the first house we lived in because he was dating one of our neighbours. I caught both of them red-handed at a hotel.”
“My husband took to calling me a witch and stopped eating my food.”
“He woke me up one night and informed me he wanted to marry a second wife.”
“He was shocked at my reaction. I told him to go ahead but ensure he was not partial.”
“He finally left home without a word and has never bothered to know whether our children are dead or alive.”
The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case for judgment.
