‘I AGREED TO MARRY MY HUSBAND DESPITE BEING POOR, BUT HE SOILED MY NAME WITH HIS MANY LIES ’

A man, Segun Adesina, who was dragged before Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, by his wife, Sola Adesina, who sought divorce  on the grounds that he was a liar and full of pretext, has given his evidence before the court.

Segun, when the charges were read to him at the couple’s first appearance in court, denied the allegations, but agreed to divorce.

Sola, in her testimony, stated that Segun lost the honour and respect she had for him when she discovered that he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The plaintiff while narrating how they met, courted and got married, explained that though he was not financially bouyant, but she loved him and was ready to go all the way with him.

According to Sola, she made provisions for their introduction ceremony by taking a loan of N50,000 which she handed over to Segun for the ceremony.about:blankabout:blank

She stated that Segun paid her bride price from this amount, but that it was returned to him.

The plaintiff said the defendant disappointed her when he started engaging in dishonest acts shortly after they got married.

The most embarrassing of it all Sola stated, was his lying habit which she said presented him as an unreliable and non-trustworthy person before their friends and associates.

She added that he brought a dent on their image, while she took everything he said these days with a pinch of salt.

Segun responding said: “My wife moved out of our home late last year and all my efforts to make her come back proved abortive.”

“I went to see her parents and pleaded with them that she returned, but she remained adamant.”

“I agree to the dissolution of our marriage since she is bent on divorce.”

“Although I do not know where she is staying at the moment, I agree that she has custody of our child, since I am often out of town during the week.”

“I promise to stay committed to being responsible for his upkeep.”

“I pray the court to rule that our child spend the weekend with me.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo adjourned the case till July 26.
