LAGOS: COURT REMANDS MAN FOR ALLEGED RAPE

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday ordered that 30-year-old Mr. Emeka Ugwu, who allegedly raped a 21-year-old woman, be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending legal advice.

Magistrate Mrs. B. O. Osunsanmi, who did not take the defendant’s plea, ordered that the case file be returned to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case till January 24.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is charged with rape.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that Ugwu committed the offence last December 13 in Ogba, Lagos.

He alleged that Ugwu dragged the victim into a room in a hotel and raped her.

The prosecutor said that the defendant was arrested and handed over to the police.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
