ANAMBRA:

PREGNANT WOMAN, 2 CHILDREN BURNT IN FIRE INCIDENT

A PREGNANT woman, Mrs. Nwazuru Okeke and her two children, Chidiebube and Makuochukwu, were burnt beyond recognition following a fire incident that occurred in their house on Tuesday night at Umuofor village, Okija in Ihiala local government area of Anambra State.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but an eye witness said the woman and her two children were trapped in the inferno, despite efforts by neighbours to rescue them.

Maxwell Okeke, her husband and father of the children, was, however, rescued with minor injuries.

According to the eye witness, it was a pitiable sight to behold as the three bodies were seen already dead in one of the bedrooms in the house after the fire was put out.

He explained that it took the neighbours a long time to quench the fire because of its intensity, coupled with the fact that the people used only water and sand.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mohammed Haruna, who confirmed the incident, said the police was already investigating the cause of the fire. “Police detectives attached to Okija Division visited the scene and the fire was put out with the help of local volunteers in the area,” Haruna said.
