Our correspondent gathered on Monday, 10th October, 2016 , that the accident happened when a commercial bus, loaded with passengers, had a head-on collision with a truck.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Osun State, Mr. Umar Ibrahim, told our correspondent that nine persons died while three injured victims were rescued and taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

“The dead victims were three male adults, five female adults and one female child. The corpses were deposited in the mortuary of the OAUTH and the injured victims were also taken to the same hospital.”

The FRSC boss said a preliminary report indicated that the accident was caused by speeding, adding that further investigation would reveal the real cause of the crash.

Ibrahim warned motorists against speeding and said FRSC officials had increased their presence on the road to ensure that traffic rules were not violated.

He advised commercial drivers to put their vehicles in good shape and obey traffic rules to forestall accidents on the highways.

Meanwhile, the FRSC has said night travels are responsible for most fatal auto crashes recorded in the country.

The Zonal Commander of the corps, RS11, Mr. Augustine Aipon, who said this at a stakeholders’ forum in Ilesha, Osun State, advised fleet operators in the country to desist from the act to reduce the rate of accidents.

The FRSC boss said there were many factors which made night journeys dangerous including the poor condition of many roads and broken down vehicles.

Aipon also warned against speeding and violation of traffic rules while blaming the use of hard drugs for a large percentage of accidents.

He added that some drivers kept fetish materials in their vehicles with the hope that the materials would prevent road accidents regardless of their recklessness.

He also decried the level at which motor parks were graduating into alcohol joints, saying the act was akin to self incrimination.
