COURT REMANDS FATHER OVER RAPE OF 17-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti on Tuesday remanded a man, Basiru Adeyanju, in prison custody for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter.

Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde, after listening to the argument of the parties in the matter, ordered the suspect be remanded in prison.

The judge adjourned the matter till October 2, 2019 for further hearing.

Adeyanju, a resident of Irona in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, who was alleged to have defiled the minor on September 10, 2017, is facing two counts bordering on rape and attempted rape.

The offence is said to be contrary to Section 358 of the criminal code law, cap c16, Law of Ekiti state, 2012.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Ekiti State Attorney General, Olawale Fapohunda, who led the legal team for the Ministry of Justice, to prosecute the case, called three witnesses including a medical practitioner, Dr Olasende Temitope, who testified that the victim was truly raped.

The medical expert further told the court that “medical report revealed the girl’s outer vagina was bruised, but she was HIV negative”.

Counsel to the defendant, Adeyinka Opaleke, observed that the victim was reported to have been taken to hospital on September 11, 2017 and the medical report was signed on January 28, 2019, but the medical practitioner informed the court that “the medical report was issued based on request.”
