Sabotaging or stealing of digital information has been the norm for quite some time now. If you don’t want your business to be disrupted by internet fraudsters, take measures and protect it.
Below are the ways to protect your business from cyber fraud:
1. Protect all information from cyberattacks
You need to be highly protective of your computers, network, and information from cyberattacks.
Ensure you have the latest web browser and security software that can protect all your data against malware, viruses, and other online threats. You should set your antivirus software to automatically run a scan after every update.
2. Secure your Wi-Fi networks
If you use a Wi-Fi network at your workplace, you need to make sure it is encrypted and secured.
To do this, hide your Wi-Fi network by setting up your router so that it does not broadcast the network name, called the Service Set Identifier (SSID). Your password must be very strong because it can protect against unwanted access to the router.
3. Don’t allow strangers access your computers
All your employees should have their user accounts. You must prevent unauthorised individuals from using your business computers. Always lock your devices with strong passwords. You should only allow trusted people or key personnel access to your gadgets to prevent cyber fraud.
4. Train your employees
To ensure maximum cybersecurity, your employees should know the basic security policies and practices. Train them on the internet guidelines and penalties involved in violating cybersecurity policies. They should also be abreast with how to handle and protect customers’ information, including other important data.
5. Limit access to information and software installation
Anyone can engage in cyber fraud, most especially those who have access to your data. There should not be freedom to access all data systems. Employees should be privy to the information they need to get their work done. You shouldn’t also allow them to install software without permission.
6. Backup business data
‘Backup’ should be a rule that must be upheld by you and your workers. All your financial files, databases, spreadsheets, processing documents, and other important files should not be left out in case of any crash. Backup can be done automatically or even weekly.
