DELTA: POLICE BUST GUN RUNNING OPERATION, ARREST NATIVE DOCTOR

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 47-year-old native doctor, Okonji Chimeze, for alleged gun running.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspect, a resident of Umuehe Quarters, Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area, was arrested by the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad on June 14, 2025, around 6:30 a.m.

Acting on credible intelligence, Edafe said the operatives executed a search warrant at Chimeze’s residence, where two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass were discovered hidden in the ceiling of his room.

“The suspect and the recovered items are in custody while the investigation continues,” Edafe said.

In a separate operation, the command’s Eagle-Net Surveillance Team on June 18 intercepted a black Toyota Corolla during a routine stop-and-search at Otokutu Bridge, Ughelli North LGA.

The vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Telvin Richmond and one Frank Obiorah, 26, was thoroughly searched, leading to the discovery of a locally made cut-to-size gun, two NBM hand bands, a battle axe, and a wooden pistol concealed in the car’s door compartment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity.

Edafe disclosed that the firearm was purchased in 2024 for ₦87,000 from a now-at-large suspect.
