HOW MY HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO USE ME AND OUR CHILDREN FOR RITUAL
A woman, Bunmi, has dragged her husband, Banji, before the Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, praying that it end their relationship on the accounts of irresponsibility and threat to her life, Nigerian Tribune reports.
She also stated that he attempted to use her and their children for ritual.
Bunmi pleaded with the court to grant her custody of their children and enforce him to be responsible for their upkeep, giving adequate attention to their feeding, education, and health care.
The plaintiff also requested an order restraining the defendant from threatening and interfering with her private life.
Banji was not in court despite being served court summonses.
Bunmi stated, “My lord, I pray this honourable court to restrain my husband from coming to my new place of abode or office to fight and embarrass me.”
“I moved out of his house eight years ago because he was not responsible.”
“Our marriage is blessed with two children whom he found a herculean task to feed.”
“He neglected me and our children for the years we lived together and made their upkeep my duty.”
“I was the one feeding the whole family and also enrolled our children in school.”
“He was indifferent to their education. He knew nothing about their academic performance and general wellbeing.”
“I endured all his inadequacies but ran for my dear life when he attempted to use me and our children for ritual.”
“I moved out with our children, but he has ceased that I have rest of mind.”
“Though he has re-married and had other children, he still kept coming to my new place of abode to threaten and fight me.”
“He sometimes comes to my workplace to rain curses on me and fight me, thus embarrassing me.”
“My lord, I beg the court to officially end our marriage and order him to be in charge of our children’s welfare.”
“I further request for an order restraining him from threatening and interfering with my private life.”
The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served the defendant.
