The Adamawa State Police Command has nabbed a 47-year-old man for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl.
According to The Nation Newspaper, the man; Alphonsus Peter, is being investigated allegedly for assaulting the minor in his neighbourhood.
Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspect was arrested on 29th March 2021.
Nguroje explained that the suspect, a resident of Demsawo, in Yola North Local Government Area, lured the girl into his room when he noticed that her parents, his neighbours, had gone out and left the girl all alone in their apartment.
Nguroje said the cry of the minor attracted the attention of other neighbours who rushed into Alphonsus’ room.
“They ascertained what was happening and took the matter to the Doubeli Divisional Police Office,” the PPRO explained.
Nguroje said interrogators had established that the suspect is a father of six and indeed a neighbor of the minor’s parents.
He said the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Adamu, has commended the suspect’s neighbours for exposing the suspect and making it impossible for him to escape arrest.
He said further investigation would be carried out as the Police prepare to charge the suspect to court.
