RIVERS: BODY OF LADY DECLARED MISSING AFTER VISITING BOYFRIEND FOUND IN MORTUARY
The family of the missing 20-year-old , a final year student of the Department of Education, Rivers State University, has found her remains at a mortuary, The Nation Newspaper reports.
The deceased allegedly visited a Port Harcourt-based clergyman, Pastor Sodje Masodje, believed to be her lover, on the 25th of December, and never returned home since then.
The cleric, who is a Senior Pastor of City of Angels International Ministries, Eneka, was arrested by the operatives of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, and handed over to the Rivers State Police Command.
The lawyer to the deceased family Gobari Deebom, said her remains were found in a mortuary in Ahoada Area of Rivers State on Wednesday.
He said the family got a hint that the corpse was deposited at the mortuary on December 26th by an undisclosed person.
Deebom said the family visited the mortuary and identified the corpse and wondered why the family was not notified on time.
The lawyer lamented that the remains of the lady had no bruises saying it was difficult to link the cause of death to a motor accident.
He said: “The family was called that the remains of their daughter was at a mortuary in Ahoada. When we got there we saw the body.”
“The twist there now is that nobody has accepted that he brought the corpse there. The mortuary attendant we met said the corpse was brought by a policeman. He did not give us his name.”
“We are wondering how a policeman will bring the corpse without leaving his details. Our people have gone there to get her picture, the mortuary attendants have refused such access.”
He regretted that the police granted the suspect, Masodje bail, while they were yet to conclude an investigation into the matter.
Deebom called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the matter and ensure that justice was done to the family.
He said: “We are in shock that the pastor who brought this girl out from her house and who is the prime suspect in this matter has been granted bail. We are calling on the IG of Police to use his good office to ensure that we get justice in this matter.”
When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Nnamdi Omoni said the matter was under investigation.
