AKWA IBOM: HUNTER SHOOTS KINSMAN DEAD DURING HEATED ARGUMENT

The Okon community in Ikot Abasi Local Government of Akwa Ibom State has been thrown into mourning following the murder of one Clement Isaiah, who was shot by a local hunter.

Isaiah was reportedly shot dead during a heated argument that ensued between him and the hunter identified as Kokoette Phillips.

Family sources told Punch Newspaper’s correspondent in Uyo on Tuesday that Isaiah was shot near his compound in Okon village.

“Both the suspect and the Isaiah (victim) were having some arguments over issues which they could not resolve amicably and the suspect had to run to his house and brought out his loaded hunting rifle with which he offloaded some lethal bullets into Isaiah’s body.”

“Before neighbours could come, the suspect had escaped into the nearby bush and we can’t find him because as a hunter, we believe he has some charms that could make him hide in the bush for as long as he chooses,” one of the youths, Sylvester Effiong, said.

Wife of the deceased, who simply identify herself as Mrs Anietie Isaiah, said she was attending a funeral at the neighbouring Essene community, when she was called to return home immediately.

“When I came home, I saw several people gathered at a location near our compound and my husband’s body was lying lifeless on the ground,” she said.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Odiko Macdon, who spoke with journalists on Tuesday, could not ascertain whether the matter had been transferred to the police command.
