ANAMBRA: WOMAN ARRESTED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BURY FOETUS

A 24-year-old woman, Chidera Nwaoga, and a patent medicine dealer, Odimegwu Ikunne, have been arrested for allegedly attempting to bury a foetus at Nsugbe in the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Nwaoga, who hails from Ebonyi State, was arrested with a foetus concealed in a plastic bucket while on her way to bury it inside a forest.

It was gathered that she had approached the 51-year-old Ikunne, who allegedly administered an injection on her that terminated her pregnancy.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

He said both the woman and Ikunne had been arrested.

The PPRO said expired drugs were also recovered from the medicine dealer’s shop, while the foetus had been buried.

Mohammed said, “Following a tip-off, police operatives attached to the 3-3 Division, in collaboration with the Nsugbe Vigilante Group, arrested one Chidera Nwaoga, 24, of Ofianta village, Nsugbe, but a native of the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.”

“The suspect was arrested with the corpse of a premature baby girl concealed inside a plastic bucket on her way to bury the child in the bush.”
