OSUN: POLICE ARREST FAKE POLICEMAN CAUGHT WITH 12 BAGS OF CANNABIS


The Police on Thursday arraigned a 47-year-old man identified as Raphael Okuwe before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court, Osogbo for allegedly transporting 12 bags of Indian hemp and parading himself as Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Police.

Okuwe was arraigned on two counts bothering on possession of substance suspected to be hard drug and false pretence.

The prosecutor, John Idoko said the accused person was arrested on 6th of May, 2020 around 9:40 AM at Oke-Imesi junction, Esa Oke, Osun State.

According to the prosecutor, “The accused person without lawful authority had in his possession twelve bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp otherwise known as cannabis, Narcotic drug and falsely present himself as Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Police.”

He noted that the offence committed contravened Section 430 and 109 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Okuwe pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The defence counsel, Mr. Tunbosun Oladipupo applied for bail for his client, assuring the court that Okuwe will not jump bail. He said the car of the accused person is with the police because he was arrested with the car.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Olusegun Ayilara admitted the accused person to bail with a sum of N500,000 with two sureties and adjourned the case to 9/7/2020 for mention.
