The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two men – Leye Akinyemi and Damilola Ijebo – for allegedly involving in the death of an 86-year-old Pa Umoru Samuel at Oge Quarters, Oke Agbe in the Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident was said to have occurred on Friday. It was gathered that the deceased met his death while trying to break up a fight between Akinyemi and Ijebo.
The two men were reportedly fighting in the deceased’s house.
A source in the town told our correspondent that the deceased, who was just recuperating from an ailment saw the two men fighting and rushed to break the fight but he was said to have been mistakenly pushed by the suspects.
The source said,” The old man came to separate the two boys who were fighting. But one of them mistakenly pushed him and he fell down and became unconscious.”
“He was immediately rushed to the Ondo State Specialists’ Hospital, Ikare Akoko but he died before they got to the hospital.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the two fighters had been arrested.
“We have arrested the two men and investigation into the matter has commenced,” Joseph explained.
He noted that the remains of the octogenarian had been taken to the morgue at the hospital in Ikare Akoko while the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigative Department of the command.
