JOBLESS MAN DOCKED FOR ALLEGEDLY VANDALISING N2.5M CAR
For allegedly vandalising a 2007 model Toyota Corolla car valued at N2.5 million, a 43-year-old unemployed man, Kingsley Anyawu, was on Monday brought before a Yaba Chief magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, whose address is unknown, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and criminal damage to property brought against him.
Police Prosecutor Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 19 at Olasupo Street in Ketu area of Lagos.
According to her, the accused broke into the car belonging to Mr Gbenga Adewunmi that was parked on the street and damaged the windscreen, removed the engine, the radio and the tyres.
“He came with two people who helped him and one in the bus. He was caught before he could make away with any of the parts.”
“However, his accomplices ran away and are still at large,” she said. The offences contravened Sections 168, 339 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).”
Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. She said both sureties must show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The case was adjourned until Oct. 31.
