Choirmaster charged for defiling 10-year-old pupil 

 

 

A 31-year-old choirmaster/teacher, David Eyo, Tuesday, was brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old pupil (name withheld) and infected her with Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD).

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri Prison, the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions ( DPP ) for advice.

Eyo, who lives at Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos, is on trial for defilement. Police Prosecutor, Benson Emuerhi, informed told the court that Eyo committed the offence at 2.00 pm. on February 10 in the premises of Promise Land Ministry School situated at No. 17, Aminu Jinadu St., Eric Moore, Surulere.

According to the prosecutor, the accused defiled the 10-year-old pupil several times in the premises of the school. It was gathered that the accused had been sexually abusing the victim, who was preparing for her Common Entrance Examinations, since September 2017 when she was in Primary Five and she could not tell her parents because he threatened to flog her, telling her that she will die if she tells anybody of the defilement.

However, the matter was reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) and a complaint was lodged at the Eric Moore Police Station in Surulere, which led to the accused’s arrest. Magistrate Osunsanmi adjourned the case to June 25.
