Enraged by incessant disappearance of their colleagues, students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), have laid siege to some streets in Osogbo burning brutes and vandalizing properties to vent their anger.
The students who were dressed in black to mourn a 400 level student of Microbiology department who was found dead after being declared missing, attacked motorists and journalists covering the protest, The Punch reports.
The rampaging students also invaded the NUJ correspondent chapel office at Fagbewesa where they slapped a female journalist, Seun Adesokan and rough handled others who tried to take their photographs.
The angry students marched from their school campus at Oke Baale, to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, and made a stop at the Olaiya roundabout where a bonfire was made.
NAIJ.com recalls that Sakariyau Abdulrofiu, a Muslim cleric was arrested on Tuesday, July 4, following the discovery of the body of Oluwafemi Shonibare, a 400 level student of UNIOSON.
Shonibare was declared missing on June 28 barely nine month after two students from the same institution were declared missing and had not been seen since then.
The Punch reports that the police investigation led to the discovery of the body and the arrest of the cleric alongside Ibrahim Ayuba and Yusuf Aliu.
It was reported that the trio confessed when they were paraded by security operatives on Tuesday, July 4, that they wanted to use the body for money ritual.
In his confession, Abdulrofiu said they hit the victim on the head with a pestle before disembodying him.
He claimed they burnt the head but before the completion of their rite, police apprehended them.
The heinous crime sparked outrage among students in the institution who set part of the house of the cleric ablaze.
