Barely nine months after two 400-level students of the Osun State University, Osogbo campus, disappeared, another 400-level student of the Microbiology Department of the university, Oluwafemi Shonibare, has gone missing.

Shonibare’s colleagues told our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday that the final year student was cooking at a private hostel around the Suzzy area, Oke Baale, at about 10pm on Monday.

He was said to have abandoned the food he was cooking and went out.

His friend said they did not know whether he went out to buy something or somebody called him on the telephone, adding that the student had not been found since that time.

A female student, Ayomide, told our correspondent that students of the university would embark on a protest against incessant cases of missing students in the university.

She said students living at Oke Baale no longer felt safe, saying security agencies and school management, as well as community leaders, must act fast to protect the students.

Ayomide also said the police had arrested a suspect, identified as Alfa, in connection with the latest case.

She said, “The boy was cooking at his hostel, but he suddenly went out and has not returned.

“We are worried. We called his telephone line, but it did not connect. This one is similar to the case of the two 400-level students who have disappeared since last year.

“His friends have told his (Shonibare’s) parents, but we are still expecting them to come to Osogbo.”

The Acting Registrar of the university, Gafar Shittu, confirmed the case on the telephone.

He said, “The case is a mysterious one. The boy was seen until around 10pm on Monday, but he has not been seen since then. We learnt that the police have made one arrest.

“The police have transferred the case from Oke Baale to the State of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.”

Efforts to speak to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folashade Odoro, were abortive as her phone rang out.

She had yet to respond to the text message sent her as at the time of filing this report.

It will be recalled that 400-level  students of the university, Samuel Eke and Robert Akinduro, went missing since September 5, 2016, the night preceding their project defence.

Also, another 400-level student of the Ipetu Ijesa Campus of UNIOSUN, Rofiat Adebisi, was kidnapped and her corpse was eventually found some days later.
