KIDNAPPING, SEX-FOR-GRADE, SEXUAL HARASSMENT SCANDAL ROCK UNIOSUN

When Osun State University (UNIOSUN) was shut down recently following protests by students over the death of one Feyisara Odeyinka of the Department of Anatomy, it didnt come as a surprise to many people.

This is because in the last two years, it has been a case of one crisis too many in UNIOSUN. From sexual harrassment to sex for grade, ritual killings amongst other vices.

For example, in the case of Feyisara, According to Daily Trust, she was a sickle cell patient and was admitted in a private hospital after falling sick.

The doctor had said she would be placed on admission but the student declined and insisted she wants to return to her hostel.

According to reports, the sickness got worse in her hostel and she was eventually rushed back to the same hospital, where she gave up while receiving treatment.

Protests broke out after news of her death spread and students attempted to burn down the hospital.

“The lady that died was a sickle cell patient. She had a crisis and was rushed to the hospital at Oke Baale. Those on duty attended to her but she died. Students were just sad by the development and some burst into tears but nobody attempted to burn the hospital,” a student said.

“The deceased’s brother, who is a student of Fountain University, also came to the hospital and he saw how his sister was attended to, but it is a pity, she died”, the source added.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro said: “There is no report that the students wanted to set the hospital ablaze but we heard that they were mourning the student who died.

The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has been shut down, following protests by students over the death of one Feyisara Odeyinka of the Department of Anatomy on Monday.

Another story that went viral in UNIOSUN is regarding an allegation of sex-for-grade/sexual harassment involving a male lecturer and a female student. As the story goes; a lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics of the Osun State University, Ikire Campus, Dr. Wale Ojoniyi, is currently in trouble following the release of a video tape of his alleged sex escapade with a 400 level English student of the institution, Mercy Ikwue.

The student, who released the over 30-minute video clip, recorded it in a hotel room.

Although some claimed the lecturer raped the student, real sexual intercourse was not captured in the video.

There was also no attempt by the man in the video to coerce the student to cooperate with him.

In a petition written to The Punch, some students of the university claimed that Ojoniyi was instrumental to the suspension of the female student, after she was allegedly caught for examination malpractices.

On her return to the university after the one academic session rustication, the petition claimed the lecturer mounted pressure on the student for an amorous affair but the lady resisted him.

It was further learnt that the lady confided in some persons, who advised her to set a trap for Ojoniyi by agreeing to his love advances.

She eventually went to the agreed hotel room and met him.

In the video, which was also made available to our correspondent, the female student set up a laptop directly opposite the bed and pretended to be watching the ‘Things Fall Apart’ film on it but she was recording the sexual activity.

Although there was no act of sexual intercourse captured in the video, the man in the video was seen stark naked and caressing the student occasionally.

In the video, Ikwue was seen  throwing  her blue top on the bed from an angle she knew the camera could not cover.  She also ensured that the camera lense did not capture her when she  removed her trousers.

She wore her top  throughout  the 34-minute duration of the show and used the bedsheet as a wrapper.

The man came to the bed naked oblivious of the trap set for him and dangled his manhood throughout the show.

The audio quality of the video clip was poor but some of the conversations can still be heard.

The female student said at one point, “Give me my transport. I am not asking for any other money, just give me my transport fare.

“Why is your thing (private part) dropping like this, haven’t you done it in recent time.

“Before I went on suspension, why didn’t you plead on my behalf? You knew about it joo.”

Ojoniyi when asked by our correspondent if he was aware of the video said he had heard of it.

He said, “I also heard of the video. It is being investigated.”

Asked if he believed that the video was a handiwork of those who might want to bring him down, he said, “ People can do anything, but I cannot be brought down.”

As if that was not enough, a 300-level student of the department of Civil Engineering at the Osun State University, Osogbo, Kazeem Amodu Ige was killed in a fight that erupted among some students of the institution.

Daily Trust reports that Kazeem was allegedly stabbed in the chest by a 400-level student of the department of Physics Electronics of the same university Yusuff Adekunle, also known as Stone.Pandemonium broke out around the students’ hostel at University road in Oke-Baale area of Osogbo, capital of Osun state on Monday evening as a result of the bloody class by the UNIOSUN students. The reason for the fight among the students is still uncertain. It was gathered that the deceased student was not among those fighting and that Kazeem was only trying to separate the feuding students when he was stabbed.

It was also learnt that the cut on Kazeem’s body was very deep and he was rushed to Our Lady of Fatimah Catholic Hospital, Jaleyemi area for medical treatment to save his life but he was confirmed dead by the doctors in the hospital.

His corpse was initially deposited at the mortuary of the same hospital for autopsy but it was later transferred to the state hospital, Asubiaro area by the authorities of the university.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Fimihan Adeoye, while confirming the incident, said he had ordered a full scale investigation into the matter and assured that the culprits would not go Scot-free.

Adeoye, who spoke through the Police spokesperson SP Folasade Odoro, said necessary measures have been put in place to prevent reprisal attacks among the students and assured that police would ensure safety of lives and properties in the area.

A student of the university said the sad occurrence was unfortunate at the time that UNIOSUN community was still mourning the death of a 400-Level student that was kidnapped and killed by ritualists recently while two missing male students of the university were yet to be found.

Another incident that shook the school to its foundation is the news of a young lady that was kidnapped and eventually used for ritual.

The report goes thus;

The department of State Security Service (DSS) has apprehended a herbalist, simply identified as Jelili and a commercial driver, Elijah Oyebode, for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 400 Level student The driver confessed that the herbalist, also known as Ifa (oracle), gave him the assignment to bring a young lady and get 10,000 Naira as reward.

Elijah said Adebisi boarded his vehicle from Ipetu-Ijesa to Osogbo while returning from the Ipetu-Ijesa campus of UNIOSUN where the lady was studying Science Education.

Adebisi, who left Ipetu-Ijesa for Osogbo on December 22, 2016, got missing along the way and her corpse was found on the roadside along Ikirun/Iragbiji road few days later.

Elijah, who spoke with reporters in Yoruba language, said: “I took her (Adebisi) from Ipetu-Ijesa. There were other passengers in my vehicle that day. The girl matched the specification that Ifa (herbalist) gave me. Ifa said I should bring a lady that has never bore a child. When I saw the student, I was very sure that she had not given birth to a child”.

“Ifa had given me a charm that I will use to hypnotise any lady that I want to bring. He said once I put the charm in my pocket, I only need to have body contact with the lady and she would be hypnotised. The charm was already in my pocket when I saw the lady and I ensured that my body touched her. From there, she didn’t know anything again.

“After dropping other passengers at the various destinations, I took the lady to Ifa at his house in Ikirun and he received her and gave me 10,000. I pity the lady when I was leaving because I knew she would not come out alive. My conscience was telling me that what I did was bad.

“When I left Ifa’s house, I went to a bush to dump the lady’s luggage which contained some clothes. Few minutes later, her phone started ringing. I knew her people must be looking for her. I took the phone to Yusuff to help me sell it. I told Yusuff that a passenger forgot the phone in my vehicle.

“The phone kept ringing and I later picked it. Yusuff told me that it was dangerous to receive the call because they could use it to trace us. I removed the SIM card and threw it away instantly to prevent her people from reaching us. We sold the phone for 20,000 Naira. We shared it 10,000 Naira each”.

While speaking with Channels Television, the herbalist denied the allegations.

He said the driver was telling lie and that Elijah was just his contract driver that he used occasionally.

Late Adebisi was a 400 Level student of Osun State University, (UNIOSUN) in Osogbo.

After her body was found on December 28, the police detectives said they were making frantic efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.

Channels Television’s correspondent in Osogbo, Bosede Sodiq, reported that Adebisi, who was studying Science Education at the Ipetu-Ijesa campus of UNIOSUN, left Ipetu to attend a programme of NASFAT society at Ikoyi a town close to Ikire before she got missing.

Although the management of UNIOSUN has listed among other factors that the fact that students live off campus is one of the reasons for the reoccuring unfortunate happenings because the students activities cant be adequately monitored, but with the incidents stated above alongside others, students and parents as well as the general public are hopeful that some drastic measures will be employed as soon as the school resumes to curb all these activities.
