OUTBREAK OF MENINGITIS:

REPS SUMMON HEALTH MINISTER

The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Healthcare Services to invite the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Odewale, over the outbreak of meningitis in some parts of the country.

The House asked the committee to get a brief from the minister on efforts being made by the ministry to curb the menace and to ensure there is no scarcity of vaccines to treat victims.

The committee is to report back to the House in two weeks for further legislative action. The resolution followed a motion by Johnson Egwakhide Oghuma (APC, Edo).

The House noted with sadness the ongoing scourge of meningitis ravaging most parts of the country, which has killed over 300 persons with many others hospitalized.

While empathizing with families of victims, the House said the Federal Ministry of Health ought to have been proactive to anticipate and put in place plans to address the outbreak.
