LACK OF ADEQUATE SECURITY:

HOODLUMS SET ILESA COURT BUILDING ON FIRE!

Some yet-to-be identified hoodlums on Monday stormed the premises of the Osun State High Court in Ilesa and set part of the court ablaze.

Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums invaded the court around 6am and set ablaze Court 2, which is one of the courts handling some sensitive cases.
The arsonists were said to have overpowered the security men at the court and inflicted injury on one of them before setting Court 2 ablaze.

Sources at the court said the hoodlums also sprayed the registry of the court with petrol, but left without torching the section.

A man, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the files and books inside Court 2 were razed.

The source said, “The hoodlums came very early and burnt down Court 2. They burnt everything inside the chamber and left.

“There is no adequate security at the court and I think that is why they were able to perpetrate the act without much resistance.

“Robbers have been invading the court and stealing some valuables before now, but this arson was a planned attack on the court.”

The Chief Judge in the state, Justice Adepele Ojo, visited the scene to assess the level of the damage done to the court. She called on the police to provide security at the court.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Bar Association, Ilesa branch, on Monday called on Governor Rauf Aregbesola and security agencies in the state to beef up security at the court.

The Chairman of the association, Mr. Ebenezer Ogunfunminiyi, made the call after members of the association held an emergency meeting to review security situation at the court.
