CALVIN OLAWALE BABATUNDE:  PRE-INQUEST HEARING INTO MURDER OF UK-BASED NIGERIAN TAKES PLACE

A pre‑inquest review hearing has taken into the death of a 48-year-old man who was fatally stabbed at his home in Milton Keynes.

Calvin Olawale Babatunde died on January 25, 2024, from stab wounds, with his neighbour, Jay Lupton, 25, later admitting to the attack.

Lupton was given a hospital order at a hearing on February 28, 2025 after pleading guilty to one count of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.

At the inquest into Calvin’s death, his brother, David Babatunde, will be represented by Yvonne Kestler and Charlotte Baldwin of law firm Leigh Day.

Speaking at the hearing last year, Olaolu Adewunmi, cousin of Mr Babatunde, said: “Calvin was my closest cousin. He was my best friend. My sounding board, confidant and a good listener.”

“We talked of one day returning home to our ancestral lands.”

“Calvin made things better for everyone and all who knew him.”

“I cannot wrap my head around the fact he is gone, that he was taken from us, and suddenly.”

“I will miss him so very much.”

“I was so touched by the number of people that signed a card outside his flat railings expressing how sad they were that Calvin was gone.”

“I am told that he was loved by all that knew him, I feel that a light has gone out of mine and my family’s life.”

“We never got to say goodbye.”
