SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS: SACKED PAYSTACK CO-FOUNDER, EZRA OLUBI SPEAKS OUT

... How he was sacked by Paystack

Paystack co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Ezra Olubi, has spoken out regarding the sexual misconduct allegations that led to his dismissal from the company.

In a blog post published on Sunday, 23 November 2025, Olubi revealed that he was fired unfairly.

The controversy began in mid-November after a social media post accusing Olubi of abusive behaviour went viral.

The backlash led users to highlight explicit tweets he posted between 2009 and 2013, drawing widespread criticism.

Following the allegations, Tribune Online reported that Paystack confirmed it had suspended Olubi and launched a formal investigation, noting that a review process had been established and an independent investigator would be appointed.

In his blog post titled Terminated, Olubi said he was dismissed while the investigation was still ongoing and without an opportunity to defend himself.

“Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question because of information circulating online,” he wrote. He said the company’s board suspended him and initiated what it described as an “independent” investigation, prompting him to remain silent.

“Once that process began, I chose not to make any public statements. I did this to avoid interfering with the investigation and because I expected a fair, thorough and unbiased review of the allegations being discussed online,” he wrote.

Olubi added that he was not granted a hearing before the company ended his contract.

“I was not given a meeting or an opportunity to respond before my contract was ended,” he said, adding that the termination “appeared to contravene the terms of [his] suspension and the company’s internal policies.” He suggested that the silence during the investigation allowed “assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.”

Olubi insisted that the resurfaced tweets do not reflect his conduct.

“Those who know me personally or professionally understand that the posts being circulated do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life. I have always… conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety,” he wrote. He concluded that his legal team would “explore possible steps in response.”

Meanwhile, the allegations emerged after an individual who had a previous relationship with Olubi posted personal complaints online.

This led to renewed scrutiny of several explicit tweets Olubi wrote between 2009 and 2013, some containing sexually suggestive comments involving colleagues and minors. He has since deactivated his X account.

However, Paystack has yet to issue official statement on allegations raised by Olubi.

Nigerian fintech giant Paystack has terminated the employment of its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following a suspension linked to resurfaced allegations of sexual misconduct.

Olubi, who has been instrumental in Paystack’s growth since its founding in 2015 and its acquisition by Stripe in 2020, confirmed the termination in a public statement on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

The termination follows days of intense public scrutiny after Paystack’s Board of Directors announced an internal investigation into allegations circulating on social media. The claims include resurfaced past tweets containing sexually explicit remarks and personal grievances from a former associate.

Olubi stated that his termination was communicated before the investigation was concluded, and without affording him an opportunity to respond to the issues raised.

“On Saturday, 22 November 2025, I was informed that my employment had been terminated. This decision was taken before the supposed investigation was concluded, and without any meeting, hearing, or opportunity for me to respond to the issues raised, in clear contravention of the terms of the suspension and Paystack’s own internal policies,” Olubi said.

He maintained that the posts do not reflect his behavior, stressing that he cooperated fully with the Board.

He noted that his legal team is reviewing the termination process to assess its alignment with internal company policies.

“My legal team is now reviewing the process that led to my purported termination, including its consistency with internal policies. They will take the steps they consider appropriate, and I will not be commenting further on this matter at this time,” he concluded.

Paystack has not issued a follow-up statement regarding the termination, adhering to its initial commitment to remain silent until its internal investigation is complete to protect the integrity of the process.
