ONDO: MORTUARY OWNER, ATTENDANT ARRESTED OVER MISSING CORPSE

A chief in Owo; Chief Oladejo Edubi and one Samuel Oluwatodimu have been arraigned before an Owo Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Owo over a missing corpse deposited in the morgue of the Adeyemi Clinic in Isuada community, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo state.

The prosecution said both men are responsible for the missing corpse of one Mrs Rebecca Ogunoye

Edubi is said to be the owner of the mortuary while Oluwatodimu is the mortuary attendant.

Both were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy to commit misdemeanor, indecently interfered with a corpse and disposing off the corpse without the consent of the family.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Owolabi Edu informed the court that the offence committed was contrary and punishable under Sections 517, 242 and 249 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State,2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Dosunmu, granted the defendants bail to the tune of N200,000.00 each and a surety in like sum.

The Magistrate barred the clinic from taking in new corpse for embalmment in the morgue pending the determination of the substantive case.

She also ordered that a comprehensive list of already deposited corpses should be forwarded to the registrar of the court.

The case was adjourned to June 10, 2020 for further hearing.
