EKITI: NEWBORN BABY DUMPED IN UNCOMPLETED BUILDING

The police in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Monday evening rescued a newborn baby from an uncompleted building at the Goshen Avenue, Adebayo area of the city, where it was dumped by the mother.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, said residents of the community alerted the police to the dumped baby, following which the security agents rose to the occasion.

Abutu said, “We got a call that a newborn baby was abandoned in an uncompleted building in Adebayo. We have recovered the baby and we immediately moved it to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti. The baby is now undergoing some treatment and care.”

He said efforts were ongoing to track the mother of the baby.

A source in the area said residents were attracted to the uncompleted building by the cries of the baby.

She said, “The baby, with its umbilical cord still in place, was discovered in an uncompleted building around Goshen Avenue, in the Adebayo area of the town at about 10pm on Monday.”
