LANDLADY POURS HOT WATER MIXED WITH PEPPER ON TENANT OVER ARGUMENT

 

 

 

A 30-year-old landlady, Oluwatoyin Adeleye, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly pouring hot water mixed with pepper on her tenant.

The accused, who resides at Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, is facing a count charge of inflicting injury, but which she denied.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, grated the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 25, 2018, at her residence.

Ayorinde said that the accused unlawfully inflicted wound on one Mrs Justinah Julius by pouring hot water mixed with pepper on her body.

“The complainant claimed that she took off her shoe before entering her room and that a few seconds later she sighted the accused picked up the shoe.

“She said that before she came out of her room the accused had gone. She went to the accused’s room demanding for her shoe, but an argument ensued which resulted in a fight.

“The accused ran inside the kitchen, carried the boiling water on a fire and emptied it on her body, which resulted in scalding her skin.

“The complainant was rushed to the hospital, the case was reported and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor told the court.

According to him, the offence violated Section 246 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section stipulates three years imprisonment for inflicting injury.

The case was adjourned to Feb. 13, for a mention.
