Truck crushes 13-year-old to death in Abaji

A 13-year-old girl, simply identified as Ebube, has been run over by a truck on Abuja- Lokoja road.

A witness said the incident happened at about 4:12p.m. on Sunday evening when the girl was crossing the road.

He said the truck driver fled after crushing the girl, saying a motorist mobilized four youths who entered the vehicle and later apprehended the driver at Aseni village.

“The trucker was at last flagged down at Aseni village after some police men at Chikara police station were alerted,” he said.

He said the truck was impounded at Chikara police station, while the driver was handed over to the police at Abaji.

Our reporter learnt that the remains of the girl have been deposited at Abaji General Hospital morgue and would be taken to the eastern part of the country for burial by the family.

When contacted, the Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP David Kolo, said he was in Abuja when he received a call that there was an accident and he directed his men to go to the scene.

“But as I am talking to you right now, I am yet to get the details from my men, until when I get to the station,” he said.

In a related development, three men sitting on a motorcycle were seriously injured after a vehicle ran over them at Sabon Lugbe, on Airport road yesterday morning.

Our reporter, who arrived the scene gathered that the victims were crossing the road in which a Toyota Camry with registration number RBC 225 JL RNA hit them.

It was observed that one among them lost one of his legs in the accident, and an official of the Red Cross gave him first aid, before the FRSC officials later arrived the scene.
