Kidnapping, robbery: IGP directs AIGs, CPs to beef up security on high ways

 

INSPECTOR-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, yesterday directed Assistant Inspectors General of Police, AIGs, and Commissioners of Police, CPs, to replicate his efforts at tackling crimes in the country by beefing up security on highways and major roads.

They are also to beef up security in their Area of Responsibilities, AOR, and ensure massive deployment of armed police personnel, patrol teams and undercover operatives to black spots, flash points and other vulnerable criminal spots in the country.

IGP Idris K. Ibrahim, The directive, according to the police boss, is to nip in the bud all forms of crimes and criminality nationwide. Idris charged the police zones and command heads to ensure that detection of crimes was prompt to serve as effective deterrent to would be criminals.

IGP Idris gave the directive just as the Force Headquarters paraded 13 kidnap and armed robbery suspects arrested along Abuja-Kaduna highway.

Force Headquarters Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent of Police, who paraded the kidnappers and armed robbery gang responsible for several kidnap-for-ransom of innocent travellers along Abuja-Kaduna highway at a press briefing held at Jere, along the highway, said several arms and weapons were recovered from the arrested suspects. The successful arrests by the police, according to Moshood, were consequent on the reinforcement of Operation Absolute Sanity on Abuja-Kaduna highway with additional two units of Special Police Forces by the Inspector-General of Police to tackle the gangs of kidnappers that escaped arrest on Abuja-Kaduna highway and relocated to some roads around Jere to Abuja axis.
