ARMED ROBBERY:
COURT SENTENCES TWO POLICEMEN TO DEATH BY HANGING IN ONDO

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has sentenced two policemen, Henry Ubogu and Emmanuel Moses, to death by hanging, having found them guilty of armed robbery.

It was gathered that the duo, who were attached to the Ondo State Police Command, had earlier been sacked by the command before their arraignment.

The convicted cops were said to be involved in robbing motorists at gunpoint while on illegal checkpoints in the state.

The convicts were arrested in 2010 after snatching a Toyota Camry car belonging to one Victor Ojo in Akure. They had pretended to be on a stop-and-search operation.

After snatching the car, they reportedly fled the scene.

It was also learnt that the reckless manner in which they drove after the robbery raised the suspicion of a patrol team who then gave them a hot pursuit.

This led to their hitting another vehicle and right there, they were said to have been arrested and detained at A Division police station, Akure.

Later, their case was linked to the signals of Ijapo Police Station where a case of armed robbery had earlier been reported that night by their victim, Mr. Victor.

Since then, they’ve been appearing in court, until Justice David Kolawole finally gave his ruling on the matter.

In his judgment, the judge held that the case of the prosecution against the accused persons had been proved beyond reasonable doubts.

He sentenced the two accused persons to death by hanging.
