BANK ROBBERY:

Three Policemen, One Suspect Killed In Iwo!

Three policemen and one suspected armed robber were feared killed on Tuesday in a robbery operation in Iwo, Osun State.

Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums first went to  the police station in the town and attacked the men on duty before proceeding to the area where the three banks in the town were located.

The banks located in the area are First Bank, Skye Bank and Sterling Bank.

Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums attacked the three banks which were very close to the Bowen University.

However, the  university was not attacked.

Some of the Automated Teller Machines on the banks’ premises were reportedly removed by the hoodlums.

A resident told our correspondent that the streets were deserted as robbers and policemen exchanged gunfire during the operation.

He said, “The armed robbers killed three policemen and the police also killed one of the robbers.

“I think the banks were aware that they could be attacked because they had been closing by 12noon for the past two months.”

The source said the hoodlums were forced to abandon one of the vehicles they used for the operation and fled when the policemen reinforced.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Folashade Odoro, could not be reached on the telephone as her telephone lines indicated that they had been switched off.

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, confirmed the robbery on the telephone to our correspondent.

He said the policemen killed one of the robbers but some policemen were killed by the hoodlums.

The monarch said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, was on his way to the scene to assess the situation.
