Scores of retirees from Osun State Civil Service on Wednesday trooped out and staged a protest against non payment of their gratuities and payment of half pensions by the state government.
The retirees, who were led by the Chairman, Forum of 2011/2012 Retirees, Omoniyi Ilesanmi, assembled in front of the demolished Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo as early as 8:00am before they embarked on the protest march.
The protesters, who were armed with placards with various inscriptions marched through Old Garage to Oke Fia and Alekuwodu before they terminated the protest at the take off point.
The protesters, who were armed with placards with various inscriptions such as: “Half pensions payment: Height of Rauf Aregbesola’s wickedness; Pay our gratuities now; Aregbesola, pay our pension arrears among others. They chanted anti government songs as they marched through the streets.
They accused labour leaders and top civil servants of conniving with the state government to divert the bailout paid to the state by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The chairman of the forum while speaking with journalists said retirees had to stage the protest to draw the attention of the public to their plights as a result of non payment of their gratuities and payment of half pensions to the retirees.
